Hanoi ranked seventh and Hoi An 11th on Tripadvisor’s list of the world’s 25 best destinations in 2024, as part of its Travelers’ Choice Awards.
Describing Hanoi, Tripadvisor noted, “The charming Vietnamese capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarter, monuments, and colonial architecture while embracing modern developments alongside.”
The platform recommended top attractions such as the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, and Hoa Lo Prison.
Hanoi welcomed 6.35 million foreign tourists in the past year, reflecting a 34% year-on-year increase, according to the city’s Department of Tourism.
Tripadvisor highlighted Hoi An, a central Vietnamese city, as “a well-preserved example of an important Southeast Asian trading port from the 15th to 19th centuries.”
It also noted that while Hoi An has long been a favorite among backpackers, it is gaining growing popularity among mainstream tourists.
Hoi An received 3.57 million foreign tourists last year, marking an 11% year-on-year increase.
The 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards are based on the quality and quantity of traveler reviews on Tripadvisor from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024. The awards recognize destinations with the highest ratings, celebrating places that have captured the hearts of travelers globally.
This year, London topped the list as the world’s best destination, followed by Bali in Indonesia and Dubai in the UAE.
