Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has announced an increase troops’ feeding allowance from N1,500 to N3,000, effective from the end of March.

Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has announced an increase in the daily Ration Cash Allowance (RCA) for Nigerian Army personnel from ₦1,500 to ₦3,000, effective from the end of March 2025. This decision was made public during his address to officers and soldiers of the 81 Division at the 9th Brigade Parade Ground in Ikeja, Lagos, on February 26, 2025.

Expressing disappointment that troops were previously receiving ₦1,500 for daily feeding, General Oluyede emphasized his commitment to enhancing their welfare. In addition to the increased feeding allowance, he addressed housing challenges faced by serving warrant officers, many of whom lack homes for retirement. To tackle this issue, the Nigerian Army has introduced a housing scheme aimed at providing affordable housing options for retiring personnel. The scheme offers two- or three-bedroom houses at prices as low as ₦8 million, with ongoing projects in Abuja, Ibadan, Jos, Port Harcourt, Owerri, and Akwa Ibom states.

This recent increment follows a series of adjustments to the RCA in response to economic challenges. In February 2024, the allowance was raised from ₦1,200 to ₦1,500.
