Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment. In an interview with Arise Television on February 28, 2025, she detailed incidents from December 2023, alleging that Akpabio made inappropriate advances during a visit to his residence in Akwa Ibom State, even in the presence of her husband. She also claimed that her refusal to acquiesce led to persistent harassment and obstruction of her legislative efforts.

In response, Akpabio has denied these allegations. The Senate has referred the matter to its Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for further investigation.

This isn’t the first time Akpabio has faced such accusations. In 2020, Joy Nunieh, former acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), alleged that she slapped Akpabio for sexually harassing her, an allegation he also denied.
