BREAKING: Inspector-General Egbetokun Orders Urgent Audit Of All Policemen, Firearms; Directs Withdrawal Of Personnel From VIPs.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun has initiated significant reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, focusing on the auditing of firearms and the reassignment of personnel.

Firearms Audit Clarification

Recent reports have highlighted concerns regarding discrepancies in police armoury records, specifically referencing an audit that indicated 3,907 firearms were “unaccounted for.” The Nigeria Police Force has clarified that these figures originate from a 2019 Auditor-General report, predating IGP Egbetokun’s tenure. The term “unaccounted for” does not necessarily imply that the firearms are missing; many were assigned to officers for operational duties and have since been recovered. The Force emphasizes that no such large number of firearms is missing under the current administration.

Reassignment of Police Mobile Force Personnel

In a move to enhance operational efficiency, IGP Egbetokun has ordered the withdrawal of Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel from escort and guard duties for Very Important Persons (VIPs). This decision aims to redirect these specialized units toward addressing critical security challenges across the nation. The reallocation is part of a broader strategy to optimize police resources and strengthen public safety measures.

These initiatives underscore the IGP’s commitment to accountability and the effective deployment of police personnel to areas where they are most needed.
