“Real Madrid has become the first football club to exceed €1 billion in revenue during a single season, driven by earnings from the renovated Santiago Bernabéu stadium, according to financial consultancy Deloitte.
The rankings at the top of Deloitte’s annual Football Money League remain unchanged, with Real Madrid leading at €1.05 billion ($1.09 billion), followed by Premier League champions Manchester City (€838 million) and Paris Saint-Germain (€806 million).”
The €208 million gap between first and second place in Deloitte’s Football Money League is the largest ever recorded by the consultancy.
Real Madrid’s dramatic renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium more than doubled match-day revenues to €248 million during the 2023-24 season. Since 2018, the club has taken out over €1 billion in loans to transform the stadium into a major revenue generator.
The state-of-the-art Bernabéu now features an undulating metal roof, expanded VIP areas, shops, and a retractable pitch. The revamped venue has hosted high-profile events, including performances by pop superstar Taylor Swift and, later this year, Spain’s first NFL game.
However, the club’s ambition to maximize revenue from the 80,000-capacity stadium has faced challenges. Complaints from local residents over noise pollution recently forced Madrid to temporarily suspend hosting concerts.
